A 24 day advent calendar is a big commitment. You need 24 products, 24 wells, and a box to hold it all. So a lot of brands go with 12 days advent calendar instead. It costs less to fill, it sells at a friendlier price, and it still gives customers that daily countdown feeling. We make the empty advent calendar. You fill it. So we build the box, the doors and the wells, then print it in your branding. After that, it ships to you flat or made up, ready for your products to go in. It is a simple way into holiday season selling, without the cost of a full 24 day run.

Product Description

Why 12 days Advent Calendar works so well?

The 12 Days of Christmas advent Calendar has a story behind it already, so customers get it right away. But the real appeal is practical. Twelve products cost roughly half of twenty-four. So your retail price drops, and more people can afford it.

Also, 12 days is easier to fill well. Instead of stretching your range thin, you can put your best twelve items in. That usually makes for a stronger calendar. Plus, a smaller box costs less to ship, which matters when you are posting hundreds of them in December.

Why brands order custom made empty advent calendars from us?

  • You fill it yourself, so you keep control of what goes in each day.
  • Wells are cut to your products, so nothing rattles or falls out.
  • Printed in your branding, inside and out.
  • Choice of doors, drawers or mini boxes, depending on the feel you want.
  • Food-safe options for chocolate, so the packaging is safe for direct contact.
  • Part of our custom holiday packaging boxes range, so your season can match.

Who uses them

Chocolate and confectionery

A chocolate advent calendar is the classic. Twelve days suits it well, because chocolate is small and a shorter run keeps the price sensible. We use food-safe board and liners where the chocolate touches the box. So it is safe for direct contact, not just pretty.

Beauty and skincare

A 12 day advent calendar beauty set is one of the strongest sellers in the category. Minis, samples and travel sizes all fit neatly into cut wells. So each product sits snug and looks deliberate when the drawer opens. Drawer and magnetic styles suit this end of the market best.

Tea, coffee and food brands

Twelve teas or coffees make a lovely countdown, and sachets fit easily into small wells. Also, separate wells keep strong scents from mixing, which matters more than people expect with tea and spice.

Jewellery, candles and gift brands

Smaller gift items work nicely too. So jewellers, candle makers and gift shops use 12 day advent calendars for a premium seasonal set, usually in a keepsake style the customer keeps afterwards.

Styles to choose from

There are a few ways to build a 12 day advent calendar. Here is how they compare.

Style How it opens Best for
Punch-out doors Push the door open Chocolate, value runs
Drawer grid 12 small pull-out drawers Beauty, jewellery, premium
Box of 12 mini boxes Lift out a box each day Mixed products, gifting
Magnetic keepsake Hinged lid, then 12 wells Luxury, reusable sets

Punch-out doors are the cheapest per unit, so they suit chocolate and bigger runs. Drawers feel more premium, so beauty brands tend to pick those. A box of 12 mini boxes works well for mixed products. Magnetic keepsakes cost the most, but customers keep them, which is worth something.

Filling your calendar

The wells are the part that makes or breaks it. So we cut them to your actual products, not a standard size. Here are some common fills.

Fill Well size Note
Chocolates or truffles Small, shallow Food-safe liner needed
Mini skincare or samples Taller wells Snug fit stops rattling
Tea, coffee or spices Small, sealed sachets Keeps scents apart
Jewellery or small gifts Padded or lined Protects delicate items

If your twelve items are different sizes, that is fine. We can cut each well differently, so a lip balm and a bath bomb both sit properly in the same calendar.

Ordering and timing

Timing matters more here than with any other product we make. Custom Advent calendars all get made in the same few months. So autumn slots fill up fast, and late orders sometimes miss the selling window entirely.

Getting the fit right

Here is the advice we give every calendar customer: send us your actual products, or at least exact measurements of all twelve. Measure the widest point and the tallest point of each one. So the wells hold them snugly, and nothing shifts when the box is carried.

Also, order a sample. On most products a sample is nice to have. On a calendar it is close to essential, because you need to open a door and place a real product in a real well. That is the only way to know the fit is right before you commit to hundreds of units.

A note on food safety and recycling

For chocolate and food, we use food-grade board and low-migration inks where there is direct contact. Our stock meets standard food-packaging rules. On recycling, plain card calendars recycle easily when clean. But foil and laminate finishes do make that harder. So if low waste is important to your brand, we will help you pick the cleanest build that still looks the part.

Frequently Asked Questions

It means we supply the packaging, and you supply what goes inside. So you get the printed box, the doors or drawers, and the cut wells. Then you fill it with your own products. That is what most brands want, because you keep control of the contents and the margins. Empty Advent Calendar Packaging is really just the box, built and printed ready for your products.
Yes, that is exactly how it works. We ship you the empty calendars, and you fill them at your own pace. Some brands fill in-house, and others send them to a fulfilment partner. Either way, we can ship flat or made up, so tell us which suits your packing setup better.
Usually, yes, and by a fair bit. You are buying half the products, and the box itself is smaller, so material and shipping cost less too. That means you can hit a lower retail price. For a lot of smaller brands, that difference is what makes a calendar viable at all.
Yes. We use food-grade board and inks made for direct food contact, and we can add liners where the chocolate sits. So a chocolate advent calendar is safe as well as good looking. Just tell us at the start that it is for food, and we will spec it properly from the beginning.
Earlier than you think. Summer is ideal, and early autumn is usually the last safe window. Production takes 3 to 5 weeks after proof approval, but the bigger issue is that everyone wants calendars at the same time. So slots fill up, and a late order can miss the season completely.
