A cupcake is mostly frosting and air, and both are easy to wreck on the way to a customer. One sharp turn in the car and the swirl is smeared across the lid. That is the real job of a good box: hold the cupcake still so it arrives looking the way it did on your counter. We make custom cupcake boxes that do exactly that a snug insert to keep each one in place, sturdy board, a window so people can see what is inside, and your branding printed on top. Whether you need a single box for a gift, a six-pack for the shop shelf, or bulk cupcake boxes for parties and catering, we build them to your cup and your dome height so nothing slides or gets squashed. They are part of our wider custom food packaging boxes range, so if you sell cookies, brownies or macarons too, the whole line can match.

Product Description

What goes into a cupcake box that actually works

The box itself matters, but the insert is what saves the cupcake. A loose cupcake tips over, slides into its neighbour, and loses its top. A cavity insert sized to your wrapper holds the base firm while leaving the frosting untouched. We measure to your actual cup, because a box cut for a standard cup will not hold a jumbo or a tall buttercream dome properly.

After that it comes down to a few choices: how many cupcakes per box, whether you want a clear window in the lid, the board, and the print. A window sells people buy with their eyes, and a box of cupcakes you can see does better on a shelf than a blank closed one. We will walk you through all of it.

Why bakers come to us for cupcake boxes

  • The insert is cut to your cup and dome, so cupcakes stay put and frosting stays perfect.
  • A window lid lets people see the cupcakes that sells, especially on a shelf or a stall.
  • Strong enough to stack and carry without crushing the box below.
  • Printed in your colours and logo, so a plain bakery box becomes part of your brand.
  • Every size from a single up to a twelve, plus snug cavities for mini cupcakes.
  • Food-safe board and inks where there is direct contact with the cake or frosting.

Who uses them

Bakeries and cake shops

A six-pack with a window is the bread-and-butter box for most bakeries, and for good reason it shows the work, stacks on a shelf, and carries home without drama. We print these in your brand colours so the box does some marketing every time it leaves the counter. Need a single cup cake box for a gift or favour? We do those too.

Home bakers and small businesses

If you are running a baking business from your kitchen, the box is often the thing that makes you look professional. A clean, branded box turns a tray of cupcakes into something people are happy to pay a bit more for. Low minimums mean you are not stuck buying thousands before you are ready.

Parties, weddings and events

For parties and dessert tables you usually want bulk cupcake boxes twelves and sixes by the dozen that travel well and look the part. We can match them to a theme or colour scheme, and the insert keeps a full box of cupcakes steady in the back of a car on the way to the venue.

Cafés, caterers and corporate orders

Cafés and caterers need boxes that are quick to fill and brand the order at the same time. Mini cupcake boxes are popular here for sampler sets and corporate gifting, and a printed lid puts your name in front of every guest at the meeting or event.

Sizes and how many cupcakes fit

Here is a quick guide to the common sizes and what each one suits.

Holds Insert Good for Window?
1 cupcake Single cavity Samples, single gifts, favours Optional
2–4 cupcakes Divider insert Small orders, gifting Yes shows the tops
6 cupcakes 6-cavity insert Most popular retail box Yes
12 cupcakes 12-cavity insert Parties, bulk, catering Yes
Mini cupcakes Tighter cavities Mini batches, dessert tables Yes

The six is the most popular for retail, the twelve is the one for parties and bulk, and singles are handy for gifts and favours. Whatever size you pick, send us your cupcake measurements so the cavities hold them properly.

Board and finish

The board sets the look and the strength. Here is how the main options compare.

Board Look Best for Note
White SBS Bright, clean Colourful print, bakeries Best for true colour
Natural kraft Warm, rustic Artisan, homemade feel Eco, FSC® on request
Recycled kraft Earthy, flecked Eco-led brands Recycled fibre
Food-grade liner Grease-safe inside Direct contact with frosting Keeps board clean

White board is the one for bright, colourful print. Kraft gives that warm, homemade look a lot of artisan bakers want. Where the box touches the cake or frosting we use food-grade material so nothing transfers. Add a soft-touch finish or foil on the lid if you want it to feel a bit more special.

Getting the fit right

One bit of advice from doing a lot of these: measure the cupcake in its wrapper, not the bare cake, and measure the dome height too. The base diameter tells us how wide to cut the cavity, and the dome height tells us how tall the box needs to be so the lid does not flatten your frosting. If you pipe tall swirls, say so we will add height. And if you are not sure, get a sample and put a real cupcake in it before you order the full run. We send a proof and dieline on every job so you are signing off on a fit, not a guess.

A note on food safety and recycling

Where the box or insert touches the cupcake, we use food-grade board and low-migration inks meant for food contact, and our stock meets the usual food-packaging rules. On recycling, plain board boxes are easy to recycle when clean, and kraft is about as eco-friendly as it gets. A clear window adds convenience and sells the product, but the plastic film does affect recycling, so we will be straight with you about that if low waste is your priority. Recycled and FSC® board are there if you want them.

Want cupcake boxes that get your cupcakes there in one piece and put your name on the lid? Send your cupcake size, how many per box, your quantity and your artwork. We will come back with a dieline and instant quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not if the insert is cut right. The cavity holds the base of each cupcake firmly so it cannot tip or slide, while the frosting sits free and untouched. The key is measuring to your actual cup a cavity that is too wide lets the cupcake wobble, too tight and it is a pain to lift out. Send us your cup size and we cut the insert to match.
Yes, and we usually recommend it. A box of cupcakes people can see sells better than a closed one, on a shelf or a market stall. We can do a clear window in the lid on any size from a single up to a twelve. If you would rather keep it fully recyclable, we can skip the window and print a photo or design on the lid instead.
We do. Mini cupcake boxes use the same idea with tighter cavities cut to your mini wrapper, so the little ones stay put just like the full size. They are popular for sampler sets, dessert tables and corporate gifting. Tell us your mini measurements and how many per box and we will build the insert to suit.
Yes. Bulk cupcake boxes are priced down at volume, so the more you order the less each one costs handy for parties, weddings, catering and steady retail. You still get the same free Pantone® match, custom insert and window options on a bulk run. Send your quantity and timeline and we will put together a bulk quote.
We keep minimums low so small bakers and home businesses are not forced into huge orders. Normal turnaround is 10–12 working days after you approve the proof, with a rush of 6–8 days when slots are open. A printed sample takes a few days once the artwork is set, and we suggest one on a first order so you can check the print and the fit.
