Christmas countdown boxes are a set of small numbered boxes, each holding one gift, treat or message to open on a set day before Christmas. They can sit in a frame, stack into a tree, hang from a string or line up along a mantel. They do the job of an advent calendar, with more freedom: the count does not have to be 24, the layout does not have to be a flat calendar, and the boxes can be reused.
If you are looking for a framed calendar with doors, see our advent calendar boxes. This page is about the individual numbered boxes and how to plan a countdown around them.
Most guides to Christmas countdown boxes jump straight to filling ideas. The length decides almost everything else: how many boxes you print, what each one costs to fill, and who the countdown suits.

A shorter countdown is not a lesser one. Many brands sell a 12-day set with better gifts rather than a 24-day set with filler, and a seven-box final-week countdown is an easy way to reach customers who start after December begins.
The traditional countdown runs from December 1 to December 24. Adding a 25th box gives your customer something to open on Christmas morning, and it is often the one you make larger. We print any count, so decide what suits your product and we will number the set to match.

The most overlooked part of planning Christmas countdown boxes is the calendar. A countdown that starts on December 1 has to be filled, packed and in your customer’s hands before then. That means working backward from the first day through shipping, production, proofing and artwork, with time to spare for a sample.
Tell us your launch date when you request a quote. We will work backward with you and flag it early if the schedule is tight. Print is at its busiest in the weeks before Christmas, so starting early is the safest thing you can do.

If a box will hold food directly, tell us. Paperboard that touches chocolate or baked goods should be paired with a wrapper or a food-safe liner, and we will advise on the right setup.
We print Christmas countdown boxes on offset presses in full-color CMYK or matched Pantone colors, so a holiday red looks the same on box 1 and box 25. Numbers can be printed on every box in the artwork, which means nothing needs to be stuck on later. Finishing options include matte or soft-touch lamination, foil stamping on the numbers, spot UV and embossing.
Our minimum for Christmas countdown boxes is 100 units, enough to run a single countdown set or test a new design with a small first batch. Larger orders lower the unit price.
The best Christmas countdown boxes arrive on time, fit what goes inside and make every day feel like an opening. Pack Printers helps you plan the length, size every box and print the whole set, starting at just 100 boxes.
