Boxes take up space. A pallet of made-up boxes eats a corner of your unit, and most of what you are storing is air. So foldable boxes fix that. They arrive flat, they stack in a slim pile, and they pop up in seconds when you need one. We make custom foldable boxes for brands of every size. Some are plain kraft mailers for daily orders. Others are black mailer boxes with a foil logo. Either way, you get a custom box with logo that fits your product and folds up fast. That saves you both storage space and shipping cost.

Product Description

Why flat-pack beats pre-made

A pre-made box is ready to go, which sounds handy. But it is bulky to store and expensive to ship, because you are paying to move empty space. A foldable box ships flat instead. So freight costs less, and a thousand of them fit where a couple of hundred made-up boxes would sit.

The trade-off is small. Someone has to fold them. But a good foldable box folds in a few seconds with no tape, so it barely slows down packing. For most brands, that swap is worth it. Also, flat storage means you can buy in bigger runs, which usually brings the unit price down too.

Why brands order custom foldable boxes from us

  • They ship and store flat, so you save space and freight cost.
  • They fold up in seconds, so packing stays quick during a rush.
  • Printed inside and out, so the unboxing feels finished.
  • Built to your product size, so nothing rattles around inside.
  • Available in kraft, white and black board, plus foil and soft-touch finishes.
  • Part of our wider custom packaging boxes range, so your line can match.

Who uses them

Online and subscription brands

If you post orders, the mailer is your main box. It has to survive the trip, and it is the first thing a customer sees. So a printed foldable mailer does both jobs at once. Plus, flat storage really helps when you are packing from a spare room or a small unit.

Retail and shelf products

Tuck-end cartons fold flat too, so shops can store spares without clutter. Then staff fold one when a product needs boxing. That keeps stockrooms tidy and cuts waste.

Gift and beauty brands

Some custom foldable boxes still feel premium. A collapsible rigid box snaps up into a sturdy gift box, so customizing foldable gift boxes gives you the luxury look without storing bulky made-up boxes all year.

Events, markets and pop-ups

At a market or a pop-up, space is tight. So a stack of flat boxes under the table works far better than a pile of made-up ones. Then you fold as you sell.

Box styles

Foldable covers a few different builds. Here is how they compare.

Style How it folds Best for
Mailer box Folds up, tucks shut Online orders, subscriptions
Tuck-end carton Flaps tuck into slots Retail shelves, small goods
Auto-bottom box Base pops open on its own Busy counters, fast packing
Collapsible rigid box Snaps up, feels premium Gifts, luxury items

Mailer boxes suit online orders best. Tuck-end cartons work well on a shelf. Auto-bottom boxes save time at a busy counter, since the base pops open by itself. Collapsible rigid is the one to pick when the box needs to feel like a gift.

Board and finish

The board sets the look and the strength. Here is a quick comparison.

Board Look Best for
Natural kraft Warm, earthy Eco and craft brands
White SBS Bright, clean Bold colour print
Black board Dark, striking Black mailer boxes, luxury
Recycled kraft Flecked, natural Low-waste brands

Kraft suits natural and eco brands. White board is best for bright, bold artwork. Black board is worth a mention on its own. Custom black mailer boxes look sharp and hide scuffs well, so they are popular with beauty and tech brands. But note that black shows fingerprints, so a matte laminate helps there.

Printing and branding

Every box we make can carry your branding. So a custom box with logo is the standard here, not an upgrade. We print in full colour, or match your exact brand colour with a free Pantone match. Also, we can print the inside of the box, which is a small touch that makes an unboxing feel considered. Foil, emboss and soft-touch finishes are all on the table too.

Getting the fit right

Here is the tip we give everyone: measure the product, not the box in your head. Give us the widest point and the tallest point. Also say if the item is fragile or needs an insert. That way, the box holds it snugly. A box that is slightly too big is worse than you would think, because the product slides and the box looks half empty. If you are unsure, order a sample first. So you can fold one up and try it with a real product before the full run.

A note on quality and recycling

We use food-grade board and inks wherever a box touches food, and our stock meets standard packaging rules. Most foldable boxes are plain paper and card. So they recycle easily when clean, and kraft often composts too. A laminate or foil finish looks great, but it does make recycling harder. So we will always be straight with you about that trade-off rather than oversell a box as fully green.

Need boxes that store flat and still look good? Send us your product size, the style you want, your quantity and your artwork. We will come back with a dieline and a quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, and this is the most common worry we hear. A foldable box uses the same board as a pre-made one. The only difference is that it ships flat and gets folded at your end. So once it is folded, it holds the same shape and takes the same knocks. A collapsible rigid box even feels like a proper gift box when it is up.
A few seconds, once you have done a couple. Mailer boxes fold up and tuck shut with no tape. Auto-bottom boxes are even faster, because the base pops open by itself when you open the box. So if you pack a lot of orders daily, that style is worth asking about.
Yes. Black board is popular for a sharp, premium look, and it hides scuffs well in transit. We can print or foil your logo on top, which stands out nicely against the dark board. One tip though: plain black shows fingerprints. So a matte laminate is worth adding if the box will be handled a lot.
Yes. Customizing foldable gift boxes usually means a collapsible rigid build. It stores flat, then snaps up into a sturdy box with the weight and feel of a normal rigid gift box. So you get the premium look without giving up your storage space. Add foil or soft-touch and most people cannot tell it folds at all.
We keep minimums low, so smaller brands are not pushed into huge first orders. Standard turnaround is 10 to 14 working days after you approve the proof. Rush is available if you are tight on time. A printed sample takes a few extra days, and we do suggest one on a first order. That way, you check the fold and the print before committing.
